Quick Answer

Vienna Rain Black Contact Lenses are a full-coverage black lens with a soft, feathered edge. The eye reads deeper and more defined in daylight, never flat.

What the Shade Looks Like

Up close, the field is a true black that holds its depth from center to mid-lens. No bright inner ring, no lift in the middle. The outer edge feathers slightly rather than stopping at a hard rim, so it blends into your own iris.

The surface reads smooth and matte-satin, with one small catchlight. No dotted mesh, no metallic sheen. That clean finish is why these black contact lenses read well in daylight.

What to Wear With Black

1. Cream Knit + Straight Denim. Oatmeal sweater, straight-leg jeans, a white tee, a thin gold chain, bare skin.

2. Black Tailoring + Silver. A black blazer over a silk camisole, pleated trousers, small silver hoops. Skip heavy liner.

3. Camel Trench + Pearl. Ivory turtleneck, tan loafers, small pearl studs. Warm neutrals keep the black from reading severe.

Where They Fit

Office days, travel days, brunch photos and dinners all work. They also suit party and cosplay looks that want a deeper eye.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes. The soft edge keeps them believable at close range, so they work for errands, work and weekends. On a fully bare face they read as a defined look.

FAQ

What color are these black contact lenses? A deep, even black across the center that feathers at the edge instead of ending in a hard ring.

What should I wear with them? Cream, camel and grey knitwear with simple metals, or black tailoring.

Can I wear them daily? Yes, they read natural in daylight, though clearly deeper than a bare iris.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
