Quick Answer

Velvet Midnight Azure Blue Contact Lenses are the deep, inky blue I keep in rotation when I want a full-coverage flash-photo eye. If you want blue contact lenses that read cool and editorial rather than cartoon-bright, start here.

What the Shade Looks Like

Up close, the center is a dense ink-navy blue, opening into a clear blue across the mid-iris and fading softly toward the edge. No heavy dark ring, no hard edge — the soft fade does the work. A fine, even dotted mesh covers the surface and keeps the finish velvety, not flat. Coverage is full, so the blue reads in daylight and stays deep in low light.

What to Wear With Blue

1. Frosted and Denim — frosted white shadow, dewy highlighter, clear gloss, thin brows, a white baby tee, light-wash low-rise jeans, silver hoops, a butterfly clip.

2. Black Gloss and Chrome — a black slip dress or velour zip hoodie, wet-look lip, chrome mini bag, stacked silver rings.

3. Warm Neutrals — cream cable knit, camel trench, peach blush, small gold hoops; cool blue looks sharper against warm fabric.

Where They Fit

Photo-heavy plans suit this pair best: birthday dinners, concerts, Y2K-themed parties, travel portraits, content shoots. Cosplay styling is fair game, since full coverage holds under flash. Coffee runs, class and quiet office days work too when your makeup stays soft.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with a dial-down. The blue is bold on purpose, so it fits a normal week when the rest of the face stays neutral — soft shadow, a little balm, hair down. It is not the pick for a bare-face morning.

FAQ

What shade of blue are these? A deep ink-navy center with a clear blue mid-field, a fine dotted mesh, and a soft fade instead of a hard rim.

What pairs with blue contact lenses? Frosted shadow, glossy lips, silver jewelry and low-rise denim for Y2K energy; cream and camel neutrals if you want the blue to lead.

Can I wear them every day? Yes, when your makeup stays neutral and the outfit is simple. Skip them on bare-face days.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
