Quick Answer
Softlight Hazelnut Brown Contact Lenses warm the iris with a soft hazelnut brown and a gently blended edge. If you want brown contact lenses that look like good light rather than a costume, this is the pair.
What the Shade Looks Like
The base is a warm hazelnut brown — no orange, no ash. Color pools deepest around the pupil, then opens into a lighter mid-iris brown with a fine speckled texture that mimics natural iris fibers. From mid-iris outward, the brown softens into the edge with no hard black ring, so it reads as a fade instead of a line. The surface stays soft and satin-leaning in daylight.
What to Wear With Brown
-
Cream and oatmeal: a cream ribbed tank, an oatmeal cardigan, ecru denim and small brushed gold hoops. Warm neutrals let the brown stay quiet.
-
Camel and denim: a camel wool coat over a white tee, mid-blue straight-leg jeans and brass hardware.
-
Chocolate and rose: a chocolate brown silk shirt, a dusty rose knit vest, taupe trousers and silver studs.
Where They Fit

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
