Quick answer

Smoky Ink Black Contact Lenses are a deep smoky black pair with fine gold shimmer through the middle — dark, polished, and still soft enough for a weekday.

What the Shade Looks Like

Up close, the lens opens clear around the pupil, then deepens into a smoky black-brown. Fine gold flecks sit across the center-to-mid zone, catching light like a thin film of shimmer rather than a printed pattern. There is no mesh and no hard ring — the outer edge melts into the natural iris line, and one soft point of light catches on the surface.

What to Wear With Black

1. Tailored neutrals. Black blazer, ivory silk shirt, straight black trousers, thin gold chain.

2. Daylight denim. Light-wash jeans, cream knit, tan leather loafers, canvas tote.

3. Evening texture. Espresso slip dress, gold hoops, bare shoulders, soft smudged liner.

Where They Fit

Office days, brunch, travel photos, birthday dinners, and low-light party shots. Keep makeup minimal — clear brow, tinted balm, one coat of mascara — and let the shade carry the drama.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes. The base blends softly in daylight and reads as deepened, not costumey. It works anywhere a dark eye works: work, errands, dinner. It is less quiet than a plain brown, so if you want invisible, choose lighter. With minimal makeup, this pair stays believable.

FAQ

Are these really black? Yes — a smoky black-brown, deep at the base and warmed by fine gold flecks through the middle.

What should I wear with black contact lenses? Neutral tailoring, cream knits, light denim, gold jewelry. Espresso, charcoal, and ivory flatter the shade.

Can I wear them every day? Yes. They stay soft in daylight and office light, and they photograph well at night. Keep shadow light so the shimmer stays the feature.

  • Don't reuse contact lens solution.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
