Seaglass Contact Lenses

The short version: Seaglass Contact Lenses are a soft sage green with a pale gold glow at the center and a misty slate rim. Wear them with ivory, olive, and denim, and they are the easiest everyday pair of the bunch.

The Shade, Up Close

Green, but gentle. The base is a muted sage, gray enough that it never turns cartoon, and the fine dot texture is packed tight across the middle, which keeps the whole surface looking like soft mist rather than a printed pattern.

The center is the surprise. Right around the pupil the color opens into a pale yellow-green glow, almost like light coming through shallow water. It makes the eye look lit from behind instead of flatly tinted.

Then the edge. A soft slate gray-green rim, diffused with dots rather than drawn as a line, so the color fades out instead of stopping.

The overall effect is watery: warm light in the middle, cool gray green around it.

What to Wear

Ivory and cream. The cleanest pairing. A cream knit with ivory trousers, gold hoops, brown leather.

Olive and sage. Tonal green on green, which reads intentional and slightly expensive. Add a white tee so it never goes flat.

Denim and white. Blue denim makes the green read greener. A white shirt and a brown belt is the whole outfit.

Rust and terracotta. Warm orange sits across the color wheel from green, so the two push each other. A rust dress with tan sandals.

All black. Quieter than you would expect. The green turns soft and a little mysterious against black.

Style note: gold jewelry warms the look and brings out the pale center. Silver keeps it misty and cool.

Where It Belongs

Brunch, coffee runs, the farmers market, a seaside trip, spring and summer afternoons, a garden wedding as a guest, soft-light photos. This is a daytime pair and it looks best in natural light.

It also holds up in a plain white shirt and no makeup, which is more than most colored pairs can say.

Everyday Wear: Yes, Easily

This is the everyday one. The green is muted and misty, so at normal distance it reads as depth in the eye rather than a color choice. It never announces itself the way a blue or a bright amber does.

Makeup-wise it plays with almost everything. Brown mascara, peach blush, and a nude lip is the safest version. For a cooler look, gray liner and a taupe eye.

Questions

What color are Seaglass contact lenses?

A soft sage green with a pale yellow-green glow at the center and a misty slate gray-green rim.

What should I wear with sage green colored contacts?

Ivory, cream, olive, denim, and black. Rust or terracotta if you want the green to pop. Gold warms the look, silver keeps it cool.

Are these good for everyday colored contacts?

Yes. The muted, low-contrast green reads as depth rather than a bold color, which makes it easy to wear daily.

Do these look natural?

Softly, yes. The dense dot texture and the diffused edge keep the design from looking printed.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
