Quick Answer

Rain Seville Black Contact Lenses are a cool, softly blended black that adds quiet depth to the iris without turning the eye into a flat circle. If you want definition that still reads like your own eye, this is the pair I reach for.

What the Shade Looks Like

Up close, the base is a true, slightly cool black that holds solid through the center. A fine dotted blend softens the outer edge, so the color settles into your own iris instead of sitting on top of it. There’s no thick drawn-on ring — just depth.

What to Wear With Black

Black flatters most palettes, so I build looks around skin, texture and metal rather than matching colors.

  1. Bare-Skin Neutrals: a cream ribbed tank, ecru denim and one brushed silver chain, with tinted balm and a clean brow.
  2. Charcoal Monochrome: a smoke-grey silk slip or a black blazer over a grey tee, with gunmetal hoops and a leather bag.
  3. One Soft Color: a muted lilac cardigan or dusty rose blouse with denim and small gold studs, which keeps the look friendly in daylight.

Where They Fit

Errands, office days and travel all suit this shade — it reads as awake eyes, not costume. For evenings, add a leather jacket and a slicked-back ponytail.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes — an everyday lens for anyone who wants a defined iris without obvious color. Skip it if you’re after something graphic and clearly unnatural.

FAQ

What color are these lenses? A cool, deep black with a soft fade, so the center reads solid and the edge blends into your natural iris instead of forming a hard ring.

What should I wear with black contact lenses? Cream and ecru with silver, charcoal with gunmetal, or one muted color like dusty rose with gold.

Are they subtle enough for daily wear? Yes, for most people — more awake eyes than obvious lenses, and an easy first step if you’ve only worn brown or grey.

  • Don't reuse contact lens solution.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
