Quick answer

Provence Grape Purple Contact Lenses are a grayed grape-purple pair for anyone who wants purple contact lenses to look like a quiet tint of the iris rather than a full color change. They stay wearable with a bare face.

What the Shade Looks Like

The base is smoked grape purple — Concord skin under a veil of gray, never bright violet or pastel lilac. The deepest tone sits in the mid-iris and eases into a lighter outer edge, so the center-to-rim transition is gradual rather than banded. The surface is an even field of tiny bead-like dots: up close you see separate specks, at arm’s length they blur into one soft wash. The outer rim is diffused into a blurred halo rather than a printed circle. On dark brown eyes it reads as a cool violet shadow; on lighter eyes the grape steps forward.

What to Wear With Purple

1. Cream and denim. An off-white ribbed tank or oatmeal cardigan with mid-blue straight jeans, a tan leather belt and small gold hoops. Cream softens the violet nicely.

2. Charcoal and silver. A charcoal wool blazer over a black tee with gray trousers, or a black silk slip and a slim silver chain. Cool metals mirror the gray.

3. Mauve layers. Dusty rose and pale lilac knits, a taupe satin midi, freshwater pearls. Skip rust and pumpkin, which fight the cool cast.

Where They Fit

Desk days, coffee runs, brunch, overcast travel photos and weddings where you’re a guest. They also hold at a low-key party, and for cosplay they make an easy violet-eyed base without a full costume.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with one caveat. The gray undertone keeps this pair believable at work, on errands and in daylight photos. It is not the pick when you want an obvious violet statement — in soft light the effect is a cool shadow, not a bright grape.

FAQ

What color are these purple contact lenses? A smoked grape purple with a gray base: deeper in the middle, lighter at the edge, finished with a blurred rim.

What should I wear with them? Cream, denim, charcoal, silver, mauve and taupe. Keep warm rusts and oranges away from the face so the cool undertone stays clean.

Can I wear them every day? For neutral, low-key looks, yes. They read best in daylight and soft indoor light; they are not for a bold, high-contrast violet look.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
