Quick Answer
Orchid Comet Noir Black Contact Lenses give the iris a full, even black that fades softly at the edge instead of drawing a hard circle. If you want black contact lenses that read as quiet depth rather than a graphic ring, start here.
What the Shade Looks Like
The center of the lens is a dense, saturated black that carries across most of the iris. No dot, mesh or print shows on the surface — the field reads smooth and quiet, not graphic. At the outer edge the black feathers into your own iris line, so there is no hard rim and no grey or brown undertone. The finish is matte-satin, with no mirror flash. Think styling and mood, not a true color change.
What to Wear With Black
-
White cotton and denim. A plain crew tee, straight ecru jeans, canvas sneakers and small silver hoops so the eyes stay the only dark note.
-
Black on black, soft. A fine-gauge knit, a satin slip skirt over a tank, leather loafers and one slim gold band.
-
Camel, cream and charcoal. A camel wool coat, cream tank, grey tailored trousers, brushed gold earrings.
Where They Fit
These black contact lenses suit ordinary days — a lecture, a workday, a long layover, a late dinner. In daylight the eye reads deep and natural, and the black holds in flash photos. For a party or a light cosplay look, they do the work of a smoky eye without liner.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes. One honest note: full coverage looks loudest on a bare face, so add mascara, a defined brow or a tinted lip — one anchor, nothing more.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
