Quick Answer
Opaline Smoke Grey Contact Lenses are a soft glam grey lens: a fine dotted mesh that deepens to sage-grey near the center and fades into a smoky edge before it meets your natural iris. Polished on camera, easy on a Tuesday.
What the Shade Looks Like
Up close the base is a muted sage-grey, not flat silver. The dots sit denser around the center, so the shade deepens near the pupil, then opens into a milkier grey-green across the iris. The outer edge dissolves with no drawn-on rim.
The texture is a fine halftone dot mesh, closer to soft-focus film grain than a printed ring, and the surface reads soft and matte in the photo; the shine you see is the eye’s own catchlight. The center is lightly veiled, so a soft grey layer sits over the pupil.
What to Wear With Grey
1. Ivory and warm gold. Ivory silk slip dress, cream cashmere wrap and thin gold hoops to keep sage-grey from going cold.
2. Charcoal tailoring. Charcoal wool blazer, black silk camisole, dark denim, silver jewelry and taupe heels.
3. Soft glam evening. A slate column dress or a dusty rose midi skirt with a blush chiffon blouse, bronze shadow, fluttery lashes and glowing skin.
Where They Fit
Weddings, rehearsal dinners, prom, headshots and late dinners. A normal workday with mascara and balm works too. Costume styling is optional; soft glam makeup is home base.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes. With minimal makeup the grey stays quiet, and the smoky edge keeps it from looking flat. The caveat: the veil over the pupil shows up close.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
