Quick Answer

Onyx Morning Black Contact Lenses are a soft, warm-leaning black: definition at the lash line, a muted edge, and none of the flat, sticker-like look that turns a dark lens into a costume.

What the Shade Looks Like

In the close-up, the base reads as a deep, warm black rather than a cool ink. A faint brown-grey glow sits around the pupil, then the color deepens gradually toward the rim — there is no hard line where the lens ends. The surface is fine, tightly packed dots that blur into a soft mesh, and the outer rim runs a shade deeper to frame the iris. Daylight leaves a soft catchlight across the top.

What to Wear With Black Contact Lenses

  1. Oatmeal + Straight Denim. A chunky oatmeal knit, a white ribbed tee, mid-blue straight jeans, and matte brown loafers. Keep jewelry to one thin gold chain and skip eyeliner.
  2. Soft Grey Tailoring. A charcoal blazer over a light grey turtleneck, black cigarette trousers, silver studs, and a balm-only lip. Cool greys make the warm cast easier to see.
  3. Evening Satin. A black satin slip dress, brushed gold hoops, a low bun, and quiet blush. Keep everything else soft.

Where They Fit

These are desk-to-dinner lenses: office days, video calls, weekend travel, and photos where you want defined but natural eyes. They also suit a soft cosplay or Halloween look without full character makeup. Skip them when you want bright, obviously colored eyes.

Everyday Wear: Yes

The blend is soft enough for regular wear and stays believable in daylight. Light, skin-toned makeup suits it; heavy shadow and a bold lip push it toward evening.

FAQ

Are these really black? Yes — a deep, warm black with a soft edge, not a hard graphic ring.

What outfits work with black contact lenses? Neutrals do the lifting: oatmeal knits, grey tailoring, denim, and black satin. Gold warms it; silver cools it.

Can I wear them every day? Yes, if your makeup stays minimal. They read dark and defined, not brightening.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
