Quick answer
Lisbon Velvet Black Contact Lenses give the eye a deep, velvety dark ring with no hard outline. If you want black contact lenses that read like a soft smoky eye, start here.
What the Shade Looks Like
The close-up shows a dense black-brown base that fills the iris edge to edge. The middle stays dark brown, and the tone gathers slightly deeper near the outer edge before it blurs away — a soft boundary, never a painted ring. No dot mesh, no feathering, no glitter graphic; the only shine is the photo light itself.
What to Wear With Black
-
Low-rise denim and a baby tee. Dark-rinse flares, silver chain belt, chunky sneakers, frosty highlighter and thin brows.
-
Velour tracksuit energy. Chocolate or baby-blue zip hoodie with matching pants, small silver hoops, tinted sunglasses and a caramel gloss.
-
Satin slip, cropped moto jacket. Charcoal slip dress, black leather jacket, butterfly clips and a nude-pink gloss.
Where They Fit
Everyday life with extra drama: coffee runs, desk days, travel photos, birthday dinners and flash-heavy party shots. Cosplay and themed nights work too.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes, with one condition: let the lens be the boldest thing you wear. Clear gloss and bare lids keep it wearable on a Tuesday; heavy liner pushes it into night-out territory. Skip it for a conservative office.
FAQ
What color are they, really? A dense black-brown with no separate rim line and no second pattern color — the dark field just softens at the outer edge.
What do black contact lenses go with? Low-rise denim, a white baby tee and silver hardware, or a velour hoodie with a caramel gloss.
Are they everyday-appropriate? Yes, when the rest of your makeup stays simple; they’re a styling choice, not a subtle one.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
