Red contact lenses that hold one saturated tone from pupil to rim are the ones that survive a convention hall, and that is what this pair does. The center reads true red, the tone thickens toward the outer edge, and nothing washes out in the middle. In costume makeup terms it is the difference between wearing colored lenses and actually having red eyes.

Where This Iris Fits the Character

Sirens, crimson-eyed demons, shrine spirits, blood-moon villains and original characters all pull from the same reference shelf, and a full red iris is the piece that sells them. A siren cosplay lens look wants wet-look makeup and salt-stiff hair; a demon build wants a hard brow and a dark lip. The lens does the work in both, because the color does not thin out in the center where camera flash tends to hit first.

Convention Floors, Flash and Stage Light

Hallway fluorescents flatten everything, so an even red is the safer bet — it keeps its shape from the badge line to the photo pit. Under a ring light it stays clean; under warm stage gel it deepens a notch. Shoot one test frame before the masquerade lineup and see how your blush reads, since a strong red iris can cool a face down. A small mirror and a spare case in your bag make mid-day checks easy between panels.

Costume Makeup and Party Styling

Keep lid work in brick, wine or red-brown, and skip bright red liner sitting right on the lash line — in photos it merges with the iris and eats the shape. A champagne inner-corner highlight, a sharp brow and a black, ash or platinum wig frame this shade well. For the after-party, a glossy lip and one silver earring keep the eye look the loudest element on the face.

“I wore these to the group shoot and two photographers asked which character I was before I said a word,” one cosplayer wrote after a weekend con.

CCUS EYEWEAR builds lenses for costume, party and convention looks — color made to be seen across a room, not just in a close-up.

Care: handle with clean, dry hands, rinse and store in fresh solution in a clean case, and keep lenses to yourself — nothing gets passed around in the green room.

  • We recommend a rub and rinse before soaking soft lenses for a minimum of 6 hours in their container.
  • Don't wear contact lenses overnight.
  • Don't wear your contact lenses in the shower or while swimming.
  • Don't reuse contact lens solution.
  • Don't use saline solution for contact lens cleaning or disinfection.
  • Replace your contact lens case every two to three months.
  • Take out your contacts if they are bothering you.
  • Never use saliva as a wetting agent.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
