Quick answer

Kyoto Mist Charcoal Black Contact Lenses give a smoky, natural-leaning gaze: soft charcoal black, a dense dotted ring, and a crisp dark edge. If you want black contact lenses that look moody in photos but still subtle at the office, start here.

What the Shade Looks Like

Up close the lens is soft charcoal black, not flat jet black. The center stays clear, then the print becomes a dense halftone dot ring that thickens toward the mid-periphery, with slightly uneven dot density. On the eye, the pupil blends into that smoky middle. A thin-to-medium solid black rim sits at the outer edge as a defining line. A bright highlight reads wet in the shot.

What to Wear With Black

1. Monochrome tailoring. Black ribbed turtleneck, straight-leg wool trousers, leather belt, brushed silver hoops.

2. Soft contrast. Cream denim, oatmeal knit, grey wool coat, bronze jewelry.

3. Evening texture. Charcoal satin slip dress, black leather jacket, patent boots.

Where They Fit

Dinners, concerts, date nights, travel photos, and cosplay styling all work. With light makeup they also suit work and weekend errands, since the charcoal tone reads close to a dark iris.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with one honest note. The dotted ring and the dark rim are visible up close and in bright overhead light. If you want a fully undetectable look, save them for evening. Otherwise, soft smoky depth.

FAQ

What color are these lenses? Soft charcoal black with a dense dotted ring and a defined black outer edge.

What do I wear with black contact lenses? Monochrome black with silver, cream and grey with gold, or charcoal satin.

Are they good for everyday? Yes, if you like a visible dark ring. Indoor light flatters them; harsh daylight shows the dot pattern.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
