Quick Answer
Ink Wash Grey Contact Lenses are a deep near-black grey that keeps your eye looking like yours, just more defined — a quiet pair of grey contact lenses that stays understated in daylight.
What the Shade Looks Like
The color field is inky black across the center and mid-iris, so it reads darker than the name suggests. Toward the edge, that black breaks into a fine speckled diffusion — small soft dots rather than a printed ring — and this grainy fade is the part that genuinely looks grey. There is no hard outer rim; the color simply dissolves.
What to Wear With Grey
Because the lens is dark, the outfit does the light work.
-
Soft tailoring. A grey wool blazer, a white cotton tee, charcoal trousers, small silver hoops. Cool metals echo the graphite tone.
-
Everyday denim. A cream ribbed knit, faded light-wash jeans, a taupe leather bag with brushed gold hardware. Warm neutrals keep the look easy.
-
Evening minimal. An ivory satin shirt or black silk slip, a matte leather jacket, gunmetal jewelry, a sheer berry lip. Skip liner — the eyes carry it.
Where They Fit
Keep them for work, long travel days, and low-key dinners where a camera might appear. In photos the center stays deep while the dotted edge keeps the blend from going flat. For parties or cosplay, they suit dark, watchful moods — soft gothic, an anime-inspired wig, a matte red lip.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes, with one note. The dark center suits most neutral wardrobes and doesn’t demand a full face of makeup. The catch: if you wanted a soft, silvery grey, this pair reads almost black on the eye.
FAQ
Are these grey or black? They lean black through the center, with a soft speckled grey fade at the edge of the color field. The grey shows most in daylight.
What pairs with grey contact lenses this dark? Cool neutrals: grey wool, charcoal, white, silver. Warm cream with faded denim works too.
Can I wear them every day? For work, travel, and casual plans, yes. Skip them on true no-makeup days if you want your natural eye color to stay visible.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
