Quick answer

Flashbulb Crimson Black Contact Lenses are a deep crimson red with a solid black core. Shopping for black contact lenses with Y2K flash-photo drama? This is the boldest way to wear the shade.

What the Shade Looks Like

The base is a rich crimson red that leans dark, almost wine, rather than candy bright. Coverage runs edge to edge, so the color holds all the way out — no separate dark rim and no pale inner zone.

There is no dot or mesh print and no painted highlight, just a smooth red field around the solid black pupil opening. That black core is what gives the red its depth and its near-black read in low light.

What to Wear With Crimson Black

1. Frosty pop-glam. Cropped baby tee, low-rise dark denim, silver chain belt, frosted eyeshadow, thin brows and a clear glossy lip.

2. Black-on-black. Black slip dress, sheer knit cardigan, pewter hoops and smoky liner — keep red the only color in the frame.

3. Soft neutral contrast. Grey hoodie, white tank, washed denim, dewy skin and blush; crimson reads graphic against pale greys.

Where They Fit

Nights out, birthday dinners, basement parties, photo booths and flash-heavy shoots. Cosplay and concerts work too with smoky liner and a dark lip. In daylight, keep the makeup fresh so the red reads deliberate.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with one condition: this is a statement lens. It looks finished with a thin brow, blush, highlighter and a defined lip, and unfinished on a bare face. Brunch, class and errands are fine once you commit to the full look.

  • Don't reuse contact lens solution.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
