Quick Answer
Flashbulb Ash Grey Contact Lenses are a deep smoked grey with an even field and a soft dissolving edge — a flash-photo eye with no hard ring. If you want grey contact lenses that read inky rather than icy, start here.
What the Shade Looks Like
Up close, the base is a saturated smoked grey between charcoal and wet slate that stays dark from pupil to edge instead of lightening in the middle, so the transition reads smooth. The surface looks clean rather than patterned — no speckles, no printed motif — and there is no defined rim: no black ring, nothing crisp to catch light. The one bright point is light reflecting off the surface, flat and direct, like early-2000s flash.
What to Wear With Ash Grey
Cool tones and a little shine suit this shade.
-
Frosted Y2K: low-rise dark denim, a white ribbed baby tee, a cropped puffer and silver hoops, with icy shadow and clear gloss.
-
Cool Grey Minimal: a charcoal satin slip skirt, a sheer grey cardigan and brushed silver jewelry.
-
After-Dark Black: a black column dress or black blazer over a silk camisole, gunmetal studs and smoky shadow.
Where They Fit
They suit nights out, birthday dinners, concerts and any room with a flash going off, plus photo shoots and cosplay looks that call for dark, moody eyes. In daylight they read softer, so travel days and errands work with a light outfit.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes, with one caveat. The finish is deep and full, so it plays well with a sheer base, a clean brow and a glossy lip; on a completely bare face it can feel heavier than expected.
FAQ
Are these grey or black? A smoked grey that looks nearly black in low light and clearly grey in daylight, with no ring and no pattern.
What should I wear with them? Cool tones: white, black, charcoal, silver, ice blue and grey denim; warm rust and gold fight the cool cast.
Can grey contact lenses like these be worn daily? Yes, if you like a defined eye — keep the makeup sheer and they read polished, not costume.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
