Quick Answer
Fern Veil Grey Contact Lenses wear as a soft green-grey eye with a fine dot mesh and a darker charcoal edge. They stay quiet in daylight and turn cooler in low light — a good pick if you want grey contact lenses that look styled, not switched on.
What the Shade Looks Like
Up close, the center is a muted mossy green broken by a fine dotted mesh that fans out from the pupil. That green fades into a lighter grey-green mid-field, then settles into a thin charcoal-grey edge that frames the iris. The finish is matte rather than glossy, so the depth comes from the mesh and that darker edge.
What to Wear With Grey
-
Minimal daylight. An oatmeal crewneck, light-wash jeans and small gold hoops. Cream and washed cotton keep the green calm.
-
Soft tailoring. A charcoal blazer, ivory silk shirt, grey wide-leg trousers, silver watch. Grey on grey lets the darker edge talk.
-
Evening edge. A black slip dress or olive satin with a cropped leather jacket and brushed silver jewelry.
Where They Fit
Easy for workdays, coffee runs, travel days and low-key dinners. For photos, soft window light and one coat of mascara do the most. They also carry a party night if you want a sharper gaze.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes, with one caveat. With minimal makeup — taupe shadow, mascara, maybe a thin brown liner — they read as a soft green-grey iris. Skip them under a heavy black wing: thick liner fights the charcoal edge and darkens the whole eye.
FAQ
What color are these, exactly? Grey contact lenses with a green core — a mossy center over a fine dot mesh, finished with a soft charcoal-grey edge.
What should I wear with them? Cream, oatmeal, ivory and light denim keep them soft by day; charcoal, black and silver bring the edge out at night.
Can I wear them every day? Yes, with light or minimal eye makeup. Heavy liner changes the look, so keep the eye clean if you want the green-grey visible.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
