A Purple Lens With a Blue Secret at the Center

Most purple contact lenses go flat the second a camera flash hits them. This pair holds, because the color isn’t only purple — a cool blue core sits right at the pupil and keeps the whole eye looking lit from somewhere behind it.

What You Actually See

The center is a clean, cool blue that melts outward into soft violet-purple. No hard rim cuts it off, and there’s no visible dot or mesh texture — the blue-to-purple shift blends gradually. Coverage is full, so your natural eye color doesn’t muddy the shade underneath. If you’re comparing purple cosplay contact lenses for a stage look, that blue core is the differentiator.

Flash, Flash, and More Flash

Convention halls are brutal on eye color: overhead fluorescents, phone flashes, ring lights at the photo wall. The blue center survives that mix because it stays cool while the purple warms slightly under flash. Angle your face a little off-camera in group shots so the light catches the outer field instead of flattening the pupil. Shoot close-ups early, before the purple eyeshadow starts migrating.

Building the Look Around Them

These lenses want a cool-toned costume. A lavender wash on the lids, a deep violet liner wing and a glossed berry lip keep the palette tight; heavy warm bronze in the crease will fight the blue. Silver jewelry and chrome accents push it further if you’re heading to a con after-party instead of standing at a photo wall.

One creator at a recent con put it plainly: “I stopped carrying four pairs of purple lenses. These are the ones I grab when the look needs to be cold and a little unreal.”

Every pair comes from CCUS EYEWEAR, and the shade is the one you’re seeing in these shots.

Care reminder: rinse and store them in fresh solution before and after each wear, keep the case clean and closed, and take them out the moment anything feels off.

Contact Lens Care Guidelines

  • We recommend a rub and rinse before soaking soft lenses for a minimum of 6 hours in their container.
  • Don't wear contact lenses overnight.
  • Don't wear your contact lenses in the shower or while swimming.
  • Don't reuse contact lens solution.
  • Don't use saline solution for contact lens cleaning or disinfection.
  • Replace your contact lens case every two to three months.
  • Take out your contacts if they are bothering you.
  • Never use saliva as a wetting agent.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
