Quick answer

Cornflower Blue Rainbow Contact Lenses give you a bright blue iris with a soft rainbow halo — clean on a normal weekday, still strong in photos.

What the Shade Looks Like

A clear cornflower blue sits around the pupil, so the color hits first and stays crisp. It then opens into a soft green-gold band and eases into a sheer violet-blue outer edge, with no hard dark rim. The transition is gradual rather than a flat block of color, and the finish stays even in daylight instead of catching a heavy shine. Up close the blend looks like watercolor, which is what keeps it from reading as a costume lens.

What to Wear With Blue

1. White and denim. A white ribbed tank, straight-leg light-wash jeans, a tan leather belt, one slim silver chain — let the blue be the loudest thing in the frame.

2. Cream and lilac. A cream knit cardigan over a pale lilac slip dress, pearl studs, a woven straw bag. Soft and romantic, never sugary.

3. Olive and gold. An olive linen shirt, khaki wide-leg trousers, small gold hoops. The green band pulls forward and the blue deepens by contrast.

Where They Fit

Quiet everyday settings suit them best: a coffee run, an afternoon in the library, a weekend market, a spring brunch. For photos, keep the lid bare and the brow groomed. They also hold up under a simple party look or a cosplay wig, since the color survives blush and glitter.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes — as long as the rest of your face stays calm. Clear brow gel, a little concealer, a sheer berry lip. It gets busy if you add smoky shadow or heavy liner, and that is the one case where I would skip them.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
