Yellow Contact Lenses: Con crunch has a rhythm: wig pinned, lashes set, fangs in, choker fastened — and then the detail that decides whether a photo reads as a character or as someone in a costume. Eyes land last, and eyes land hardest.
The Iris, Up Close
The field is a saturated, gilded yellow covering the iris edge to edge, with a soft blend where the pupil opens so the shade shifts instead of stamping a flat disc on the eye. A defined dark rim traces the outer edge — a narrow, sooty border that gives the yellow a shape and keeps it out of the whites. That rim is the workhorse: it makes the lens photograph as an eye rather than a sticker, and it holds its own beside a bright wig.
On the Floor, Under Flash
Con halls are lighting chaos: LED panels overhead, phone flashes, stage wash, then a dim hallway. Under direct flash the iris throws a bright gilded highlight and pulls the camera to the face; under warm tungsten it leans amber; in shade it settles deeper. Shoot your reference frames first, then chase the atmospheric ones, and check the rim in a front camera before group shots.
Styling and Makeup
Yellow is a bold anchor, so build the face around it. Keep a soft brown or olive wash in the crease so the iris never looks pasted on, and let a thin black liner echo the rim instead of competing with it. Skip yellow shadow — let the lens own that color. For gothic or anime-con looks, add a black vinyl collar and a pale wig; for a party, gold jewelry and a glossy lip push the same lens louder.

Understanding Your Prescription

Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes

SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)

BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)

DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)

AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
