Quick Answer
Charcoal Mist Grey Contact Lenses are grey contact lenses with a deep charcoal-black middle and a soft feathered edge. They read as quiet depth, not a costume color.
What the Shade Looks Like
The close-up shows a dense, near-black center with fine radial lines running outward like small brushstrokes. Those streaks thin and soften into pale mist grey instead of stopping at a hard rim, so no circle is drawn around the iris. The surface looks smooth and soft, without sparkle, and the tone stays full from center to edge. The effect is diffused depth — darkest at the pupil, mistier toward the outer iris.
What to Wear With Grey
-
Oatmeal and ivory. Cropped oatmeal cardigan, ivory ribbed tank, cream denim, small silver hoops.
-
Grey on grey. Charcoal blazer, plain white tee, dark-wash jeans, black loafers.
-
Cream knit and gold. Pointelle cream knit, camel trousers, gold hoops, sheer cocoa liner.
Where They Fit
Desk days, coffee runs, and daylight photos are the sweet spot. Bare-ish makeup — tinted balm, brushed brows, one coat of mascara — lets the feathered grey do the work. Add liner for a party or a cosplay look and the same lens turns smoky.
Everyday Wear: Yes
Yes for most people who like a deeper eye. The feathered grey holds in daylight and office light without looking done. Skip it only if you want a pale, icy grey.
FAQ
What color are these lenses? A dense charcoal-black center that feathers into soft grey — smoky, not flat or pale.
What pairs with grey contact lenses? Oatmeal, ivory, cream, and camel, plus silver or gold; grey-on-grey with a charcoal blazer looks deliberate.
Are they everyday-friendly? Yes for work, errands, and daylight, though the black center is bolder than a pale grey.

Understanding Your Prescription
-
Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
- OD - Right Eye
- OS - Left Eye
- OU - Both Eyes
-
SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
-
BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
-
DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)
Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses
Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:
-
CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
-
AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)
Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes
- Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
- BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
