Quick Answer

Blood Eye Chestnut Brown Contact Lenses are a milky chestnut brown with a clear center-to-edge blend and no hard rim — my pick for brown contact lenses that look like my own eyes, only warmer.

The deepened middle reads dark and blood-warm on camera, so it holds its own beside bold makeup or a wig.

What the Shade Looks Like

Up close the base is a milky chestnut brown, warm rather than ashy. The center is deepest, then the color steps outward in a clear, even blend — no dot pattern, no mesh texture, no glossy highlight. No dark rim either: the edge diffuses instead of drawing a line around the iris.

What to Wear With Brown

  1. Oatmeal and ecru. Chunky oatmeal knit, ecru denim, brushed gold hoops — the brown reads as the deepest tone in the look.
  2. Chocolate satin. A chocolate satin slip, bronze jewelry and espresso liner along the lash line.
  3. Cream and deep green. A cream poplin shirt, deep olive trousers and a leather-strap watch for daylight.

Where They Fit

Desk days, coffee runs and brunches — anywhere I want quietly warmer eyes. They also photograph well, and the deepened center holds up beside a wig at a costume party.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with one note. Tinted balm, groomed brows and one coat of mascara keep it natural by day; I’d only skip it on a fully bare-face day.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
