Quick Answer

Afterhours Gloss Espresso Brown Contact Lenses are a near-black espresso brown with a dotted mesh texture and a defined dark edge — a Y2K flash-photo eye that reads as real, just darker and sharper.

What the Shade Looks Like

In the close-up, the color is a deep espresso brown that sits close to black in shadow. The pupil-to-center area stays lighter, then the brown deepens outward. A fine dot mesh runs across the whole field — no spokes, no printed graphics. A thin dark rim defines the outer edge, and that edge is what frames the eye. A soft highlight catches the surface where light lands, so the finish looks wet rather than matte in photos.

What to Wear With Espresso Brown

1. Frosted Baby Tee + Low-Rise Denim — a pale pink or baby blue cropped tee, low-rise bootcut jeans, slim silver belt, chunky hoops, frosted white shadow and a sheer pink gloss.

2. Glossy Party Slip — a black satin slip dress, vinyl shoulder bag, strappy heels and a clear glassy lip. The dark rim feels deliberate against all that shine.

3. Cocoa Knit + Cream Cargo — a chocolate fine-knit cardigan, white tank, cream cargos and gold-tone jewelry. Warm browns echo the lens, and cream keeps it daytime.

Where They Fit

Coffee runs, class and office days work with light makeup. Parties, photo booths and themed shoots are where the dotted mesh and dark edge really earn their place. They also finish a cosplay look without tipping into costume.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with one condition — keep the face sheer. Bare lip, clean skin, soft brows. Save the frosted shadow and butterfly clips for nights out.

FAQ

Are these brown or black? Both, depending on light. The base is espresso brown; in low light the mesh and the dark rim push it toward black.

What should I pair them with? Silver, cream and pale pastels flatter this shade most. Low-rise denim and satin keep the 2000s mood.

Can I wear brown contact lenses like these every day? Yes, with minimal makeup — the dotted mesh stays subtle when the rest of the face is quiet.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
