Quick Answer

Afterglow Midnight Black Contact Lenses are a Y2K pop-glam black lens with a clear center and a soft smoky field. If you want black contact lenses that feel afterparty-cool, not costume-heavy, start here.

What the Shade Looks Like

The close-up shows a deep black base with a slight charcoal lean, a clear center, and a soft center-to-edge transition. I do not see a loud dot or mesh print; the surface reads as a smooth wash. There is no separate colored outer rim and no mirror-like highlight, so the effect stays smoky rather than cartoonish.

What to Wear With Black

Black contact lenses are a styling layer, so I keep the outfit clean and add one Y2K cue.

  1. Low-rise denim and frosty highlight: black baby tee, washed low-rise jeans, silver chain belt, frosty highlighter, glossy lips, thin brows, butterfly clips.
  2. Black satin afterparty: black satin slip dress, sheer mesh layer, silver hoops, chain-strap bag, cool frosty eyeshadow.
  3. Pink-and-black pop: black baby tee, pale pink mini skirt, black tights, silver hardware, glossy lip, clean liner flick.

Where They Fit

They fit flash-photo settings: birthday dinners, mall photo booths, 2000s-themed parties, and creative makeup days. For work, I would do clean skin, thin brows, a black blazer, and one silver earring. Travel calls for a black slip dress or jeans and a baby tee. Cosplay works for a Y2K pop-star mood, not a named character.

Everyday Wear: Yes

Yes, with a caveat: they work when you want a soft smoky black effect with simple makeup and denim. They are not my pick for a completely natural iris or a conservative office. Weekends, yes; bare-face days, skip.

FAQ

Are these black contact lenses or dark grey? Black with a soft charcoal lean, a clear center, and no separate colored rim.

What should I wear with them? Low-rise denim, a black baby tee, silver hoops, frosty highlighter, and glossy lips—or a black satin slip dress.

Can I wear them every day? Yes for a soft smoky look with simple makeup; skip them for a bare, natural iris.

  • We recommend a rub and rinse before soaking soft lenses for a minimum of 6 hours in their container.
  • Don't wear contact lenses overnight.
  • Don't wear your contact lenses in the shower or while swimming.
  • Don't reuse contact lens solution.

  • Replace your contact lens case every two to three months.
  • Take out your contacts if they are bothering you.
  • Never use saliva as a wetting agent.

Typical Contact Lens Prescription

Eye Power/SPH BC DIA CYL
OD (Right) -2.25 8.8 14.0 -1.25
OS (Left) -3.00 8.8 14.0 -1.25

Understanding Your Prescription

  • Eye - Which eye the prescription line item is for:
    • OD - Right Eye
    • OS - Left Eye
    • OU - Both Eyes
  • SPH - Sphere (this can also be referred to as Power or PWR)
  • BC - Base Curve (usually a number between 8 and 10)
  • DIA - Diameter (usually a number between 13 and 15)

Toric (Astigmatism Correcting) Lenses

Some patients require lenses that are toric or astigmatism correcting. Prescriptions for these types of lenses will also contain two additional numbers that relate to the correction of the astigmatism. These two numbers are usually separated by an "X" and read as "times", they are indicated with the following symbols/abbreviations:

  • CYL - Cylinder (usually a number between -4.00 and +4.00)
  • AX - Axis (usually a number between 0 and 180)

Additional Contact Lens Prescription Notes

  • Your prescription will also contain an expiration date. This is typically one year from the date that the contact lenses were fitted.
  • BC values range from about 8.0 to 10.0. The doctor fits the lens with the curvature most appropriate for your eye. Most lenses come in several different BC values. If your prescription does not contain a BC value, this is likely because your brand of lens only comes in one base curve.
